SMC December 2014 End of Term Newsletter

Dear parents and members,

End of Term Concerts

Thank you again to all of you who either performed or came along to support our concerts on Saturday. I was very impressed with how much our ensembles have developed this term. It’s always a pleasure to hear our members perform. During the day, we raised £968 which will be a significant contribution towards providing our members with equipment, sheet music, workshop and performance opportunities.

David Loud has already uploaded many videos of the performances onto our website www.skipton-music-centre.org.uk These are well worth seeing. The website is regularly maintained and it is worth using this as a means to keep up to date with what is going on.

Changes to Staffing Next Term

During the Spring Term there will be some changes to staffing following the departure of Arthur Phillips. I am delighted that local wind specialist, Jonathan Shardlow has agreed to step in to direct our Senior Wind Band and Orchestra. Some of you will remember Jonathan as the Skipton Music Centre manager some years ago before Anne Heaton. Jonathan, who is a very fine bassoonist, currently teaches for the County Music Service and has many years of experience as a musical director. I know that you will all make him welcome and that you’ll enjoy his musical direction.

For the Spring Term, changes to staffing are as follows:

Senior Wind Band – Jonathan Shardlow

Orchestra – Jonathan Shardlow

Senior Percussion Ensemble – myself

All other ensembles – no changes.

Jonathan has commitments for the Summer Term and beyond so we will be looking to appoint a new permanent musical director to start after the Easter Holidays.

Next Music Centre Rehearsal

Saturday 10th January.

Have a very enjoyable Christmas!

Best Wishes

Pip

Skipton Music Centre Manager
